Hydrocephalus Association Recognizes Neurosurgery Clinical Fellow

The Hydrocephalus Association awarded its 2018 Resident’s Prize to Shawn Vuong, MD, a neurosurgery clinical fellow at Cincinnati Children’s. Vuong conducted research under the guidance of Cincinnati Children’s faculty June Goto, PhD, and Francesco Mangano, DO, director of the Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Cincinnati Children’s.

This prize is awarded each year to the most promising hydrocephalus-related research paper presented by a neurosurgical resident at the Pediatric Section meeting of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons/Congress of Neurological Surgeons. The study, “CRISPR/Cas9-Based Development of progressive hydrocephaly Rat Model of Hydrocephalus,” used novel technology to manipulate fertilized rat eggs, creating new possibilities for the study of hydrocephalus.
